My fileserver now has THREE screens. I added the 17″ 1280×1024 CRT to my setup yesterday. It needed to happen since I was already running out of screen room on my two 19″ 1280×1024 screens. I’m really enjoying pushing limits with this computer. It’s got five hard drives (totaling 500GB), two DVD+-RW drives and two power supplies. This thing is FUN. 😀
I was fed up with PCs in general. I opted to save up and get a MacBook. The black one to be specific. It has a 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM (667), and a 200GB SATA HDD. I’m in heaven. The OS is to die for, and so is the hardware. Naturally at this point I would automatically recommend a Mac to anyone who needs a new computer.
So I am working on this certain laptop, and am planning to buy it. However, it came with Vista home basic. Well, the other day I formatted the drive and installed XP MCE. NONE of the essential hardware worked (video, wifi, wired LAN, audio). Yes, I had XP drivers and yes they were a nightmare to find. I put Vista basic back on, and called it good. Later I decided that if I was to keep Vista, I should at least have a better version so I torrented and tried to install Ultimate. The installer froze at “Expanding files – 69%” and no way could I get it to move past it. I put home basic back on. The next morning I discovered that, upon resume from Standby, the resolution was bumped down from 1280×800 to 1024×768. Annoying. I tried everything to fix it to no avail. I put XP on again, and this time got almost everything working. Only thing: it would NOT resume from standby. I rely heavily on standby so I had to go to an OS that at least would resume. Here we go again. Put home basic back on. So far it seems to be working fine.
I hate OSes sometimes.
